Message From Nonnie

Nonnie and Papa went up to Oregon on Thursday to open up the house for our annual Thanksgiving week trip. Lisa and I arrived late Saturday evening with the kids. We received a phone call on early Sunday morning learning that Mike and his family were involved in a tragic car crash on their way up to be with our family. Sadly, I must inform our family and friends that Mike (41), Shannon (40) and Brennen (14) were called home to be with the Lord yesterday morning. Blaine (11) and Kylie (9) were able to extricate themselves from the vehicle and waited with "Patrick", a Good Samaritan until rescue crews arrived.

Blaine and Kylie were briefly hospitalized with minor injuries and were picked up by Shannon's brother Derek. We all drove home through the night last night until Nonnie and Papa picked up the kids last night. We are safe and well at Nonnie and Papa's house in Riverside. We want to thank all of our family and friends for their support and countless prayers during this difficult time. The services will be held at Grove Church in Riverside on December 5, 2009. More information to follow regarding further details. Our family asks that this information gets disseminated to all pertinent persons. Thank you.

  10. Dave, Linda, Lisa, Jeff: Oh my goodness. I've tried to post a couple times, but words are not adequate to express my sorrow at this difficult time. It was good to see Jeffy and Lisa last nite. Those of us in Huntington Beach feel miles and miles away. But, please know that you are ALL wrapped in our love and it goes without saying we are jumping at the bit to do even the smallest thing to be of help. Jeff says "Nonnie is the rock"! That doesn't surprise me one bit. My family sends their love and condolences and will see you on the 5th. Perhaps I'll see you on Thursday. It's ALL of our prayer that you will stay strong and committed in your fight with Leukemia. Prayers will continue and I know God had his hand in giving you healthy platelets from Mike.
I love you so very, very much. Also, thanks again, my son, for your beautiful blog. We all appreciate it so much.

  12. Dear Linda,

I am glad that Diane and I were able to visit with you, David, Lisa and Jeff today. You are as beautiful and strong as ever, you are a true blessing. As I told you today, if you are friends with one Asam, you are friends with all Asams (and the extended family), you get the entire gang. Just think, my journey with the Asam family began so many years ago as I coached Lisa’s swim team at La Sierra, I remember Mike riding his bicycle over to watch practice. Who knew that after that I’d be working at T&C with you and eventually with Shannon where Shannon and I began our friendship. Then, Rusty would begin working with David at the City and eventually working with Mike. Throughout all these years, Rusty and I have been so honored and privileged to have Mike and Shannon as friends. Whether we spent time together at work, the guy’s city league softball games, each others wedding showers, weddings, baby showers, weekend river trips, etc., etc., it was always so much fun and we always laughed! Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives. Mike, Shannon and Brennen will be truly missed, no words can express how I feel right now but please know that we are all praying for you. As I have said over and over, if there is anything we can do for you, you know where to find us!

    With much love,
    Janet
