Close Call

Nonnie was sound asleep at 5:00 A.M. this morning, when she was awoken by her nurse. Imagine how upset she must have been when she was told that her fever had returned! She reminded her nurse that this is what happens prior to becoming nauseous and having a horrible day.

Of course, this prompted a battery of tests..... the staff took blood from her peripherally and another from her PICC line to check for an infection. In addition to the anti-nausea medication and Tylenol, she had a urine analysis and a chest x-ray before receiving fresh blood and platelets.

Thank goodness that her nurse came in to check on her when she did! Because of her swift actions and subsequent treatment, Nonnie ended up having a wonderful day. When Lisa talked to her mom tonight, she had just returned from her third walk of the day. Back here at home, the Osterkamp family dropped off the most beautiful flower arrangement that brightened up our day.

  1. Linda, I had a good talk with Carol last night, I can't believe we don't see each other more often, were less than 100 miles apart. She said you were doing great, I guess I wanted to hear it from someone who had seen you. We worry about you and your struggle. I bet you can't wait to go home. Keep up the good fight, you are in our thoughts everyday. Love Dave & Terry

  2. Linnie, We check on you daily. We are always anxious to see how you are doing on a daily basis. Having checked this morning we were sadden that you have had some difficulties. But it sounds like you are getting wonderful care from the hospital staff. I know you feel great comfort having your family around you. And as you can see you have an extended family of friends that all care deeply about you. Please know we think of you daily. Luv/Hugs to you - Chris and Bud

  3. Linda, hang in there. Remember, when you come to the end of your rope, just tie a knot and hang on. (Wish I'd thought of that saying!) We're really pulling for you and look forward to seeing you down in Oregon before too long.
