Neutrophil 101

Last night, Nonnie had a rough night while on her own. She developed a low-grade fever that prevented her from getting much sleep. While it never developed into a high fever, she was nervous because of her experience a couple of weeks ago. They are planning to give her platelets tomorrow and we got some encouraging news regarding further blood tests today.

There are several different types of white blood cells, which are cells of the immune system that defend the body against infections. They are all produced in the stem cell that is found in the actual bone marrow. The "Neutrophil" cells defend against bacterial and fungal infections and are the first responders to such a problem. The reason I mention this, is that Nonnie's Neutrophil counts are on the rise and this is what we need for her eventual release from the hospital down the road!

I failed to mention that Nonnie's dear friend Brenda from T & C went to UCLA yesterday after Mike & Shannon left. Papa is back at the hospital and they are expecting a few more visitors to come by if she is feeling well. Keep those prayers coming!

  1. I rarely write anything here but want to reassure you that all day, every day, as Linda pops into my mind (as she so frequently does), I send up a prayer for strength and healing. There goes another one right now! I feel certain there are multitudes of us doing exactly that. Thank you for the blog and the peek into Linda's daily life at UCLA.
